Dimapur, September (MExN): The Kuda Village Council (KVC) has expressed shock and surprise over the existence of a body styling itself as the "Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan Dimapur" and strongly objected to its recent September 10 press release opposing a reported resolution by the United Colony Council regarding business associations.
In a press release issued by KVC, the council clarified that it has no knowledge of any such organization operating under the name "Nagarjan"—which is the erstwhile name of Kuda Village.
Detailing the background of the settlement, the council stated that Kuda Village (formerly Nagarjan) was established in 1941 and has since functioned as a recognized village under "The Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978". The reversion of the name from Nagarjan to Kuda Village was officially approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (vide Letter No. 11/4/2007-M&G dated July 14, 2008) and subsequently notified by the Government of Nagaland (Notification No. GAB-8/2/98 dated September 2, 2008).
Invoking Section 15(a) of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978, the KVC emphasized that no organization is permitted to use the names "Kuda Village" or "Nagarjan" to indicate its location without specific written permission from the village authority. The council cautioned that any group doing so will operate at its own risk and attract penal provisions at its own cost and peril.
