KVK Zunheboto conducts natural farming programme

ZUNHEBOTO, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): Under the Natural Farming Mission, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, Nagaland University, conducted a two-day natural farming programme on February 4 and 5 at Lazami, Kilomi, and Tukuliqha villages in Zunheboto district.

The programme aimed to sensitize farming communities on the importance and benefits of natural farming practices for sustainable agriculture and improved farm income. Farmers were trained on the preparation and application of key natural farming inputs, including Beejamrit (Beejatra) for seed and planting material treatment to protect against seed-borne and soil-borne diseases and to enhance germination, Jeevamrit as a microbial culture to improve soil fertility and nutrient availability, and Neemastra as a natural bio-pesticide effective against sucking and chewing insect pests.

Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK Zunheboto, conducted live demonstrations on the preparation of these natural farming formulations. Informative literature prepared in the local dialect was distributed among beneficiaries to facilitate understanding and adoption of the practices.

To support implementation at the village level, big buckets and other essential raw materials were provided to each village at the initial stage of the programme.

Community Resource Persons from each village participated in the training to ensure wider dissemination of knowledge within their respective communities. A total of 245 farmers from the three villages took part in the two-day programme.
