Achievers with dignitaries during the felicitation programme held at the Kohima Village Council Hall, Kohima on May 12.
Kohima, May 14 (MExN): The Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) on May 12 held a felicitation programme to honour academic and competitive examination achievers. The event, held at the Kohima Village Council Hall, recognised HSLC and HSSLC toppers, successful candidates, undergraduate and postgraduate gold medallists, PhD holders, and those who cleared various competitive examinations. Altogether 250 successful candidates in HSLC and HSSLC examination were felicitated at the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Er Kereisiezo Sachii, president Kewhimia Gazetted Officers' Krotho (KGOK) said that KGOK has 418 active members and acknowledged God’s blessings over the years, especially in the field of education. He said that, over the years, 42 individuals from the village have served as directors in different departments.
He acknowledged the students for bringing laurels to the village and making everyone proud. He emphasized that all achievements are possible only through God’s blessings and reminded everyone to always put God first in everything they do.
Describing the village as one of the biggest in the Angami area, he stated that people always look up to the village because of its strong record in HSLC, HSSLC, degree, PhD, and various competitive examinations. Looking at these records, he observed that girls are performing better academically. He clarified that it is not necessarily because girls are more intelligent, but because they are more sincere and hardworking. He therefore urged the boys to become more sincere and dedicated so they can compete on equal footing.
He also pointed out that the world today is highly competitive. He mentioned that last year, out of 5,76,793 candidates who appeared for the UPSC examination, only 14,161 qualified, competing for just 958 vacancies. Likewise, in the NPSC examination, around 17,000 to 18,000 candidates appeared, out of which only about 1,500 qualified for a total vacancy of 96 posts.
He stated that the students who passed the HSSLC examination can broadly be categorized into two groups — those who have been sincere and hardworking since their high school days and performed exceptionally well, and those who have successfully cleared the examination but are still uncertain about what they want to pursue in the future.
He encouraged the students in the second category to remain focused, choose the right path, and give their very best in order to become competent and successful individuals.
He also appreciated AGOK for initiating programmes not only aimed at encouraging students to pursue government jobs, but also for motivating and supporting students in various other fields. He described it as a good beginning and expressed hope that the initiative would continue to grow and benefit many more students in the future.
Addressing the achievers, he encouraged those who would eventually serve in government offices and other professions to remain honest and disciplined in all that they do. He remarked that many honest people, including their parents, may have been sidelined in society, but honesty and integrity must never be compromised. He further spoke about the changing nature of education, stating that education in earlier times was very different from today. Stating that we now live in the age of computers and technology, with access to better facilities and opportunities, he, however, reminded everyone not to forget the sacrifices and blessings of their parents and elders.
The programme also witnessed the launching of the book “An Outline of the History of the Angami Naga”, published in commemoration of the 100 years of graduation of Late Lhoulienyü Suokhrie. The book was launched by his granddaughter, Alice Vizo. The programme was chaired by Kevilhoulie Kelio while Rev. Atuo Whuorie, pastor Baptist Mission Church Kohima invoked God’s blessings.
