Kyongs urged to foster unity

‘Peace and tranquility could come only when there is unity in the society’

Dimapur, January 18 (MExN): Expounding that enabling environment is a pre-requisite for any developmental activity, Independent MLA and chairman of Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation (NSMDC), Thomas Lotha, has urged the Kyong (Lotha) community to foster unity, which according to him is the essence for peace and harmony.

Thomas Lotha called upon the Lotha community to build unity among them during a hymnal song competition on January 17 at Longtsung village local ground, which also coincided with the 9th Potina Kup Students’ Union Sports Meet. The hymnal song competition was organized on the theme ‘Team work makes the dream work’, where Thomas Lotha was the chief host.

Speaking on the occasion, Thomas Lotha said the hymnal song competition was conducted to motivate villagers towards fostering unity within members of the village and further at inter-village level. Stressing that unity is the need of the hour, Thomas Lotha said peace and tranquility could come only when there is unity in the society, while adding any developmental activity could take place in the society only when the people learn to live in peace.

He announced that the hymnal competition would become an annual event beginning from this year. More importantly, the hymnal competition was organized to impart knowledge on music among the villagers who still remained ignorant of the subject. On the occasion, he assured to delegate qualified musician to impart them basic knowledge on music.

He was of the view that such competition would bring the community members closer during the practice in village level as well as at the competition in inter-village level. He was confident that with the competition, the community would learn to build bond of unity and further foster peace and tranquility.

Six villages competed on two songs, namely “It’s not an easy road,” composed by John W Peterson and “I’ve given my life” composed by Olga J Weiss. Based on the expert judgement of Benlanthung Yanthan, Yanbemo Ovung, Jethro Merry and John Ovung, the first prize was won by Chuti village, while the second and third positions were won by Longtsung village and Meshangben village. The best discipline prize was won by Byotchu village, while the best timing prize was won by Pyangsa village and Best memory prize was won by Morakjo village.

In the volleyball final match, Lotsu Classic A defeated Lotsu Hill View by 18-25, 25-23, 17-25. Retired School Inspector, Lirow Ovung was the chief guest of the Sports Meet inaugural function which began on January 14.
