The two-lane road connecting Pfutsero to Phek town was rendered completely impassable on August 9 after a massive landslide occurred at the 52 km chainage, between Phek village and Losami, cutting off all vehicular movement along the stretch.

Phek Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rhosietho Nguori, in a formal traffic advisory, said the incident was caused by persistent landslides and rockfalls along Package-III of the Pfutsero–Phek two-lane road project, particularly between Losami and Phek village. He said road clearance and maintenance work was being taken up by the concerned authorities but cautioned that the operation would require complete restriction of traffic movement along the affected location from August 9, until the road is declared safe for use.

The DC advised commuters to take alternate routes during the restriction period. The suggested diversions are-Pfutsero–Porba–Sakraba–Pholami–Khomi–Losami–Losatephe–Lanezho and Zero Point–Chetheba Town–Runguzu Nasa–Runguzu–Thuvopisu–Surhoba–Phek Town–Lanezho.

He further directed the construction company, Madhucon Projects Limited, to ensure that the road is cleared for vehicular movement at the earliest possible time. “This is issued for strict compliance,” the advisory stated.

Thuputhiyi Venuh, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Madhucon Projects Limited, acknowledged the disruption and informed that restoration of normal traffic flow could take some time, requesting commuters to bear with the inconvenience until works are completed.

Earlier in the day, Phek Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Pritpal Kaur visited the site to assess the ground situation. Officials said continued rainfall in recent days has increased the risk of further landslides, complicating clearance work.
