LASI survey underway in Nagaland to map elderly health, socio-economic status

Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): A large-scale household survey under the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) is being conducted across Nagaland from March to May to generate comprehensive evidence on the socio-economic and health conditions of the elderly population.

With fieldwork commencing, trained survey teams are visiting households across districts to collect data on ageing-related issues, including healthcare access, financial security, living arrangements, and mental and physical well-being. Blood tests will also be conducted as part of the stud, informed press release.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with Population Council Consulting Pvt Ltd providing technical and implementation support.

Officials stated that changing family structures, migration of younger populations, and evolving socio-economic conditions have contributed to emerging vulnerabilities among older persons. The survey aims to systematically identify these challenges and generate actionable insights.

Field investigators, selected locally, have undergone structured training covering survey methodology, ethical standards, confidentiality protocols, and digital data collection tools, the release said.

The findings are expected to contribute to evidence-based policymaking and strengthen elderly welfare programmes in the State, it added.
