Late Zakiesatuo laid to rest amid call for justice

Nagaland Governor leads others in condemning incident and offering condolences

Late Kevi Zakiesatuo was laid to rest today at his residential compound, Golaghat Road, Dimapur, amid call for justice from various organizations and individuals. He was 59 and survived by his wife and three daughters and a son.


A prominent citizen of Dimapur and a former electoral contender, Late Zakiesatuo was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Dimapur on December 18. A Special Investigation Team constituted by the Dimapur police is currently investigating the case.


The fifth child and youngest son of Late Zakiesatuo Angami, Late Zakiesatuo did his schooling in Dimapur and Shillong and his higher education in Madras. He was a member of Dimapur Town Committee and was also a veteran Congress member and served as President of DCC (I) Dimapur District from 1992 to 2000, and later served as General Secretary, NPCC (I). At the time of his death, he was holding the Chairmanship of Ward 2 Council Dimapur.


At the funeral service today, short speeches were delivered by Kohonoma Rüffüno Dimapur, Chakhro Angami Kuda Union Dimapur, Tenyimia Union Dimapur, Public Action Committee, Naga Council Dimapur, Kuhoi Zhimomi, Dimapur Town Committee, HK Khulu (Retd IAS), GK Rengma, Muslim Council President, DCC (I) President, BP Sharma and family members.


Meanwhile the Governor led others in the state in mourning the death as well as demanding justice for the victim.


PB Acharya in a condolence message stated that Late Zakiesatou’s contribution as a public leader for the welfare of the people will be remembered.


While condemning the heinous act, the Governor expressed hope that the machineries of the state government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is delivered. He conveyed heartfelt condolence to his wife and family and prayed to Almighty to grant strength and solace to bear the loss.


H Tovihoto Ayemi: MLA & Advisor, Dept of Power, GON H Tovihoto Ayemi in a condolence stated that “he was a man of principle and conviction and his character was such that he cannot have enemies who could terminate his life so brutally.” While expressing condolences to his wife, children and family members, Ayemi prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.


TR Zeliang: Leader of opposition TR Zeliang in a condolence expressed pain and stated that he served the Naga society and was a peace loving citizen. “I remember him as a promising leader blessed with strong integrity, principle and charisma,” the message read. Zeliang further condemned the murder and urged upon the state government to immediately book the culprits and deliver justice at the earliest. Zeliang conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family and prayed that Almighty God grant peace and solace to all his loved ones.


APO: Angami Public Organization (APO) has condemned the “outrageous and barbaric murder of late Zakiesato by unknown criminals.” In a condemnation and condolence note, the organization urged the “Nagaland Government to urgently investigate this case and bring the perpetrators to justice. We demand the government to activate all its assets to immediately identify arrest and book the criminals.” APO further conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


CAKYO: Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO) has condemned the act. The organization in a press note urged the concerned authority to investigate the case at the earliest so that justice is served. It conveyed condolences to the bereaved leader's family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


CGBU: Chakhroma GBs’ Union (CGBU) stated that he was a tall leader who dedicated himself to uplift the society. Denouncing the “barbaric act of the perpetrators,” it urged the concerned authority to ensure that justice is done and innocent citizens are protected. The Union shared the pain of the family and prayed that the Almighty God grant eternal rest to the departed soul and give solace to the loved ones.


CMK: Chakhromapfü Mechü Krotho (CMK) in a condolence message has urged the authorities to leave no stone unturned to book the perpetrators at the earliest. The association conveyed it deepest condolences to the bereaved family and extended prayer and support at this time of grief.


DDSC: Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) stated that he “was a man for all occasions and character, loved by all for his selfless participation in helping others in times of difficulties.” It further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that the Almighty God bless the departed soul.


DBS: Dimapur Bangali Samaj (DBS) in a condolence expressed that “a life in its prime was nipped in the bud.” A prominent leader who “lost his life in the most despicable manner deserves outright condemnation,” the message read. The Samaj further conveyed condolences to his bereaved family members and eternal rest in peace for the departed soul.


KRD: Khonoma Ruffuno Dimapur (KRD) stated that he was a tall public figure and a philanthropist “not only in the state arena, but also at the national level.” Condemning the act, it appealed the law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprit(s) at the earliest and award befitting punishment as per the law of the land. KRD further prayed that God grant solace to the bereaved family and the departed soul to rest in peace.


MBF: Manik Bhattacharjee Foundation (MBF), Dimapur stated he “was a pioneer of this town and loved by the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion,” a prominent figure who contributed immensely towards the development of Dimapur town. In his death, the people have lost a towering figure and personality, the message read and conveyed profound condolences to the family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


NPF Minority Wing (Central): Naga People’s Front (NPF) Minority Wing (Central) in a condolence stated he was a veteran political leader, social worker and prominent citizen of Dimapur. "Such senseless killing is an act of cowardice and not of heroism," stated the message. The members conveyed deepest condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


NTC: “Late Kevi was a prominent citizen of Nagaland who served our people in different capacities till his death,” read a press statement from Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC). It condemned the inhuman act and urged the State Government to investigate and bring the culprit/s to book without delay.


PAC: The Public Action Committee (PAC), Naga Council Dimapur while condemning the “inhuman murder” stated that it would leave “no stone unturned to get to the truth and justice.” Let his death bring a new age to Nagaland where criminals no longer roam free, it added further asserting that the PAC “shall not rest till justice is delivered and murderers are punished.” The Committee further prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


TPO: Tenyimi Peoples' Organization (TPO) expressed profound “agony of losing one of its most prominent and honored member whose place can never be replaced and the vacuum will be forever felt.” TPO in a message expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that God Almighty grant strength to mitigate the loss.


TSUD: Tenyimi Students Union Dimapur (TSUD) while conveying deepest condolence to the bereaved family members also assured them of “support to make sure justice is delivered to the family.”


TUD: Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) said he was one of the guiding personalities of the union and condemned the incident as a cowardly, cold blooded crime committed by the perpetrators. It appealed the Authority to book the culprit(s) and deal with as per the law of the land. TUD further conveyed deepest condolence to the family and prayed the Almighty grant comfort and strength and for his soul to rest in peace.


WAYO: Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) has condemned the heinous crime and demanded that the perpetrator(s) be caught at the earliest and punished befittingly. WAYO also conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that the Almighty God grant strength to bear the loss of a noble soul.


WCH: Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) has condemned the murder of a prominent public figure and senior citizen. It appealed to the concerned Authority to leave no stone unturned. The Hoho further prayed that God Almighty grant comfort to the bereaved family and the departed soul rest in peace.
