Latest Scenario

ET Ezung

The latest development in Naga politics vis-a-vis both overground and underground is the newly formed opposition less Government labeled as ‘United Nagaland Government’ has led to some valid speculations.

Firstly, it can be even described as a ‘Voiceless Government’ since there is no Opposition to it. In a vibrant democracy an active Opposition keeps the Government on its toes. One reason for this present situation is ostensibly unity for facilitating and fulfillment of the protracted Indo Naga issue. However, there are reasons to speculate on such a scenario as NPF President Dr Shürhozelie Leizietsü has stated (a) “this new experiment for political reason only” which is issues based and (b) “the NPF Legislators will not ask or accept anything from the Government.”

Whichever party has been in power since the past 20 years or so, the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Nagaland has regularly pointed financial irregularities in several Government departments. Yet the Government has apparently not addressed this ongoing problem till date.

Governments may come and go but the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are permanent establishment to probe matters concerning International, national, internal security and other offences detrimental to a thriving democracy.

Therefore, let us hope against hope that the present ‘United Nagaland Government’ will ensure n thither delays in not only facilitating hint also bring about whatever outcome honourable and acceptable to all stakeholders including most importantly the Naga people in general.

Please fast forward the long anticipated solution without Fear or Favour.
