Lecture on ‘Indian Diaspora’ held at St. Joseph University

Chümoukedima, September 29 (MExN): The Department of History, St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima conducted an academic lecture on the topic “Indian Diaspora” on September 29. Dr. M. Rajendran (IAS Retd.), Director-Admin, KMMC Medical College, Muttom, Kanyakumari, was the resource person for the session.

The lecture was chaired by Dr. Lanuchila Changkiri, who guided the proceedings from commencement to conclusion. The event began with an invocation delivered by Khekato Zhimo, followed by the welcome address from Prof. Dr. Avinuo Chupuo, Head of the Department.

Dr. Rajendran delivered a presentation focusing on the historical antecedents of the Indian diaspora, particularly its emergence during challenging and tumultuous periods. The lecture analyzed the varied challenges faced by diaspora communities, their enduring significance, and the manifold contributions of the Indian diaspora to global socio-cultural and economic landscapes in contemporary times.

The session witnessed active engagement from attendees, particularly during the Q&A segment, where students participated with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity. This interactive component enriched the academic value of the lecture and fostered critical dialogue.

The proceedings concluded with a vote of gratitude by Dr. Muleto Vero, who acknowledged the contributions of the resource person, organizers, and participants. The lecture session culminated with a group photograph with the resource person, dignitaries, and students marking the event’s closure. A total of 73 students were present for the session, along with several teaching faculty members.
