Imphal | December 18
Left parties in Manipur are all set to impose its dawn to dusk Manipur state-wide general strike against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on December 19. The strike to be commenced on Thursday at 6 am will be lasted till 6pm of the same day. The general strike is as part of a nationwide protest call given by the Left parties against CAA on the same day.
Addressing a press conference at CPI office in Imphal on Wednesday, leaders of the Left parties claimed that supports are pouring in from other political parties and civil society organisations to the proposed general strike. CPI, CPI(M), RSP and Forward Bloc had already announced the bandh few days ago. Secretary of Manipur State Council of CPI, L Sotinkumar alleged that CAA is an anti-people Act. "Left parties are calling the nationwide strike against CAA with a vow of the Left parties to withdraw the Act", he said and claimed that supports are pouring in to the general strike in Manipur.
Leaving aside the difference of ideologies, many a political parties, civil society organisations, voluntary organisations and women bodies have conveyed their supports to the general strike call, Sotinkumar further claimed. “The general strike will turn out to be a successful anti-CAA movement with their supports,” he expressed. The CPI leader termed the CAA as one of the most dreaded draconian laws which will put the secular structure of the country at stake. “The Act will be able to dilute the ILP system," he added.
