Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): Lerie Panchayat held its 1st Executive meeting on September 15, 2011and dealt with varied pressing issues for the welfare of the colony and the general public of Kohima. A press note issued by James Liezietsu, Chairman, Panchayat, Lerie Colony, Kohima stated that the Panchayat had considered the plight of poor families and intended beneficiaries of various Government Welfare schemes especially, with the Public Distribution System and therefore, invited the Fair Price Shop owner and Anganwadi workers operating in the colony, and identified various bottlenecks and has formed a committee to ensuring the maximum benefit to intended beneficiaries.
The Panchayat has also taken note of unlawful activities and disturbances by outsiders in the colony. It stated that night time revellers are informed to immediately cease and desist from such activities within the colony. “Defaulters will be apprehended, their names and vehicle numbers will be exposed and any other penalties may be imposed by the Panchayat”, it warned.
The onset of festive season is expected to generate more activity in the helipad, and increase VIP Traffic in the colony. The Panchayat therefore appeals to all vehicular drivers to observe speed limit, considering the condition of the road and the many school children on these roads. The Panchayat also appeals to all land owners/constructors intending to erect structures/construct houses along/near the roads, within the territorial jurisdiction of the colony to intimate and secure the ‘No Objection’ certificate for the people at large and avoid uncompensated compulsory demolition.
The Panchayat has expressed deep concern on the safety of its residents, especially on the attempts to outrage the modesty of its womenfolk. The Panchayat has condemned the recent attempted rape in the colony and urges the law enforcing authorities to deliver speedy justice and ensure that the perpetrator is awarded a befitting punishment. “ Henceforth, such attempts may incur severe repercussions as the public is disgusted and outraged with such acts perpetrated upon its innocent womenfolk,” it stated.
The Panchayat has also decided to observe its 25th Anniversary (silver jubilee) in December 2011. Therefore, the Panchayat has sought co-operation of all concerned and requested prayers for a successful and blessed jubilee. The Panchayat also felicitated Vitovol on being made the 2nd G.B. of the colony.
