Lerie Panchayat Kohima celebrates Silver Jubilee

Kohima, December 15 (MExN): The Lerie Panchayat, Kohima today celebrated its Silver Jubilee in a grand function held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Sec School Ground.  Parliamentary Secretary Chotisuh Sazo graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Nicky Kire, MLA NKVIB&Advisor MTF Nagaland was the guest of honor.
Sazo while addressing the crowd stated that we should respect culture as there can be no law without culture. He lauded the Lerie Colony for the developments that they have achieved, while mentioning that more developments will be seen in the future. Adding that the younger generation is neglecting our rich culture, the parliamentary Secretary stressed on the need to strengthen our customary laws.
Lauding the Panchayats, Sazo said that the Panchayat is a local ‘’Self Governing System’ and that our Customary Laws are exercised through this body, hence there is an urgent need to strengthen the Panchayats.
Quoting Shiv Khera’s lines that ‘The Society deteriorates not because of rascals but due to inactivity of individuals’, Sazo appealed for co operation and work towards development.
Interestingly the parliamentary secretary advised the Lerie Panchayat to include female members in their office bearers as there are none, he backed this advice with the reason that women also have opinions and solutions to problems.
The programme was chaired by K. Situo Sekhose while Invocation was pronounced by Rev. A.K.Jami. Introductory speech was given by the Chairman Lerie Panchayat while the Souvenir was released by Mrs. Moanungla Kevichusa (Editor), valedictory speech was given by R. Wati Imchen and Benediction was pronounced by Shikato H. Sumi.
The Jubilee celebrations also saw an evening of entertainment graced by Shri. Neiba Kronu, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board Nagaland as Chief Guest. The highlights of the evening include performances by Dr. Nicky, Methanilie, E.M Lotha, The Chipmunks, Lerie band, Grafitti, Topeni Assumi, Thepfuvilie Peter Solo etc.
