Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said the answer to the grievances of the people of Nagaland’s eastern areas should be answered only by the Central, State and the 20 elected legislators representing the eastern people. The Nagaland unit of the BJP toured the eastern areas during April 10-20 covering Mon, Longleng, Tuensang and Kiphire district.
A press release from the BJP said that the party’s leader interacted with the community leaders of the areas. A high-powered committee of the BJP held closed-door interactions with the leaders of the eastern organizations and ‘listened patiently’ to their “grievances, anguish, brutal treatment and great pain”. The areas’ peoples have expressed deep anger “because of the step-motherly treatment meted out by the successive governments since the very inception of Nagaland state,” the BJP stated.
“The reply to this burning issue ought to be answered by the present state government and central government and also the 20 elected legislators from eastern region who are answerable to the plight of their own eastern Naga brothers and sisters,” the BJP said.
In Longleng, the touring BJP leaders “understood the tearful cry, heart-piercing pain, utter neglect, superiority attitude shown and long-suffering under development in socio-economic and polity by the successive governments who has turned a blind eye…” This trend will not be tolerated anymore, the BJP said. The committee assured the eastern peoples that “after the final visit” by the top central BJP leaders in few months, their grievances and issues would be raised in the parliament for early solution.
The party asserted that the people of the stated areas cannot be cheated time and again by vested interests and “money and power mongering political parties who are highly drunk by money and power and the 20 elected legislators from the eastern region.” They all lack “noble intentions” and genuine political will, the BJP said, to uplift the eastern areas.
“The BJP HPC tirelessly, vociferously and wholeheartedly reaffirms its commitment and stands by the ENPO for granting statehood in their hour of great darkness, pain and depression.”
