Literacy rate of Mon a matter of concern

Mon, April 21 (DIPR): The Deputy Commissioner, Mon Dinesh Kumar, IAS challenged the new team of Office Bearers of the Konyak Students Union (KSU) to improve the literacy rate of the district. He was addressing at the 2nd day of the 64th General Conference of the Konyak Students Union, at Council hall on April 20.
Highlighting the latest literacy rate of the state where Mon district is far behind with the rest of the district with 56.47%, he said it is a matter of concern for each and everyone because Mon is below 14% below average rate and no district in the state is below 71%. Stressing on RTE and free elementary education and to avail the opportunity, he appealed to the village councils and the students community to adopt a resolution to send all children to the schools and ensure that no single children is left out, because education is the back born for all-round development.
Asserting that Students has a vital role to play in the changing era of globalization and technologies, he urged the students about the changing dynamic and the responsibility of the students in this fast developing world. He exhorted the students to update and equip with the change of time and added that it is high time to think about the future, the career and the society.
Referring to the unemployed educated youth, he said that due to various factors in the society, the students divert into wrong direction and indulged in bad habits of taking drugs and alcohols and spoil their career. Citing that, everyone cannot depend fully in the Government jobs because Government cannot provide employment to all educated youth, he said there are more rooms for employment in the private sectors and urged the students to avail the opportunity in the private sectors. He also emphasized on the need of conducting career counselling for the students to give awareness to the students, and informed that one day career counselling would be conducted for the students on 27th April, with resource persons from various departments. The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized on entrepreneurship program of the Government and creating awareness on HIV/AIDS.
Asserting that every body has a right to protest and demand to the Government, he requested the student’s body to protest and demand in the true democratic means without hampering the normal activities of the Government. He also appreciated and congratulates the NGOs of the district for their assistance in maintaining law and order in the district.
