Tuensang, May 6 (MExN): Livestock insurance was highlighted as a financial safety net for farmers during a one-day training programme for para-veterinarians and farmers under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) 2025–2026, held at the CVO Conference Hall in Tuensang on May 6.
Addressing the event, Dr N Wopenthung Odyuo, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) of Tuensang and Shamator highlighted that while livestock rearing serves both economic and personal purposes among the Nagas, it also exposes farmers to significant financial losses during calamities.
He stated that the livestock insurance scheme seeks to protect farmers by providing compensation in the event of livestock deaths
He further informed that the scheme is being implemented in collaboration with National Insurance Company Limited with the objective of providing financial protection to farmers by insuring animals against death arising from specified risks.
Dr Aojongshi Chang, FM, SCRC, delivered a presentation on livestock insurance, covering its regulations, financial security aspects, and benefits under the scheme, the State DIRR reported.
The training was attended by farmers and para-veterinarians from Tuensang district. The programme was chaired by Dr Tangnio Shiu, FM, SCBF.
