Livestock, poultry farming awareness programme organised in Tening

Jalukie, March 8 (MExN): The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (COVSc & AH), Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Jalukie, organised a Kishan Gosti-cum-Farmer–Scientist Interaction Programme at Tening in Nagaland on the theme “Smart Livestock and Poultry Farming Practices for Strengthening Socio-Economic Livelihood of Tribal Youth of Nagaland” under the NEH component.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Zeshmarani, Professor and Head, Department of Livestock Production Management, who emphasised the importance of adopting smart and scientific livestock and poultry farming practices to enhance productivity and improve the livelihood of tribal farmers.

During the technical session, Prof Palimsammi of the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics delivered a lecture on methods of estrus detection and the benefits of artificial insemination in livestock, highlighting their role in improving breeding efficiency.

Helungsuipoing Mbungtsa, Farm Manager, also spoke on maize cultivation practices and effective weed and pest management techniques to ensure better feed resources for livestock.

An awareness-cum-animal health camp was conducted as part of the programme, during which 100 dogs were vaccinated against rabies and sick animals were treated by the veterinary team from the college. Farmers were also provided antiparasitic drugs, antibiotic powders, multivitamins and acaricides.

Altogether 160 farmers attended the programme. During the event, 1,065 chicks, 17 bags of poultry concentrate feed, maize seeds, feed supplements, poultry feed troughs and water pipes were distributed among beneficiary farmers.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Lungchui Zeliang, Chairman of Tening Council.
