Longleng, December 1 (MExN): The District Health Society Longleng organised by the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA) Longleng joined the global community in commemorating the World AIDS Day 2025 under the theme “ Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response” held at the VDB Conference Hall on December 1.
The observance highlighted efforts to combat stigma, raise awareness, and promote prevention and care for HIV and AIDS.
During the occasion, Dr Temsusashi District AIDS Control Officer (DACO), Longleng spoke on the significant of the day and briefed on the origin of HIV/AIDS. Temsusashi mentioned that it is a day where people around the world unite to show support for people living with HIV and to remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
He highlighted that each “World AIDS Day” focuses on a specific theme and this World AIDS Day is more of a celebration of the achievements of communities, adding that it is a call for action to enable and support communities in their leadership roles.
He also highlighted that “World AIDs Day” remains as relevant today as it’s always been, reminding people and governments that HIV “has not gone away” and there was still a critical need for the AIDS response, to increase awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to “end stigma and discrimination and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.”
He urged all individuals and those engaged in high-risk behaviors to undergo regular testing without hesitancy highlighting the availability of free testing kits in major healthcare units within the district.
The event was chaired by LipomPhom, Vaccinator DH, Longleng, while a special presentation was made by H Chingmei and short Speeches were delivered by Y Denjei, Associate Pastor for Youth, Muli Baptist Church and Vice-President PhomlaHoichem. Vote of thanks was given by Ti-ngo, Yingli Mission Society. The event was marked with a moment by Candle Light Vigil initiated by Moatemjen A Jamir, Associate Pastor for Youth Longleng Ao Baptist Arogo, to honour individuals living with HIV. Followed by testing of HIV, HEPA-B and C.
A total of 320 participants including department staff, NGOs, Church Leaders, Yingli Mission Society and Students from Yingli College and Bautung Government Higher Secondary School attended the commemoration of World Aids Day 2025.
