Longleng, November 24 (MExN): The District Health Society Longleng in collaboration with District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Longleng organised dissemination of the HIV & AIDS (P&C) Act 2017 at CMO conference hall, Longleng on November 23.
The programme was organised at District Level with Church Leaders, Phomla Hoichem, Youth Organizations Students Union and Ward Leaders, stated a press release from the CMO office Longleng. The resource persons were Kumdilong Kessen (NJS), Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, DLSA and Monyei, Panel Lawyer DLSA.
The main objective of this workshop was to sensitise the community about the key provisions of HIV & AIDS (P&C) Act 2017, roles and responsibilities of Ombudsman and Complaint officers.
Kumdilong Kessen spoke about the objectives and scope of the Act that is to stop the stigma and discrimination revolving around HIV & AIDS. The Act provides equal rights and opportunities to the infected people and to safeguard the Human rights, legal rights and Constitutional rights for PLHIV. The Act ensures that the identity of person living with HIV shall be kept confidential and no person shall be compelled to disclose their HIV status or to give out any details related to anyone. It's ensures that atleast one Ombudsman will be appointed by every state Government to inquire into complaints related to the violation of the Act and provisions of health care services. It prohibits any discrimination or feeling of hatred against PLHIV prohibits discrimination in public places like hospitals, offices, educational institutions and discrimination while residing or renting property and employment .
He spoke about how the Act prohibits any kind of violence and physical assault or activities to encourage violence towards people living with HIV and how medical institutions are at higher risk for exposure of HIV as it is a blood Borne infection.
For this reason, the Act ensures to create a secure and safe workplace to prohibit the spread of HIV infection, by ensuring timely Provisions of post- exposure prophylaxis, training for caution and complete information to protect oneself form HIV. It provide safeguarding humanitarian and Constitutional rights for Individuals diagnosed with HIV & AIDS .
Monyei, Panel Lawyer, DLSA briefed the services provided by DLSA Longleng. The workshop was chaired by M Lithei, DSRC Counsellor, District Hospital Longleng with invocation by Atu, Associate Youth Pastor Ao Baptist Arogo Longleng, welcome address addressed by Dr Tiasunep CMO Longleng and closing remarks by M Lithei.
