Longleng: NGOs urged to work together against drugs abuse

Longleng, June 26 (MExN): International Day Against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was celebrated with Dr Pritpal Kaur IPS, SP Longleng as special guest at PBCA convention hall Longleng. The programme was organised by PBCA, Longleng Police, Longleng district users Network and Yingli Mission Society, stated a DIPR report.

The SP Longleng emphasized on effective intel-collection for drugs raids and urged all the NGOs to save the society from this slow poison and hence, should work together. “Students should learn to say NO against drugs abuse and rather focus on their career and work hard to build more progressive society,” she stated. 

The SP also explained the legal systems and effects of drugs like SP Capsules, Brown sugar, Yaba, Sunflower etc.

The PBCA, Executive Secretary Tialemba informed about new rehabilitation centre to be opened at Longleng; Mano, President, Phomla Hoichem spoke on need to include driver's union; Dape, President Phom Students Conference urged to make students aware about all social menace; Atula Jamir, OST centre informed about OST centre's work; Shahshing, Drug Users Network acknowledged Potter's House and explained livelihood training of drug rehab patients; Hampom from Tamlu explained about HIV, drugs abuse etc; and Chuba, President All Ward Union called to fight stigma of drugs abuse.

Special song was presented by Ayolta Rehab Centre and a play by Yingli College.

The programme was attended by all village council chairman, ward chairman, Church pastors, PSC, PBCA, Drug users Network, Phomla Hoichem, Yingli Mission, Longleng Police, Longleng Town public and NGOs.

SP Longleng started a livelihood training of drug users a month back in coordination with Longleng District Users Network headed by Shahshing, where they were taught to make handicrafts and traditional wooden chair along with rehabilitation treatment.

During the programme held on Monday, 15 traditional wooden chairs were shown in exhibition and sold after programme.
