Longleng: Nurses urged to be ‘frontline of change’

Longleng, May 12 (MExN): The 15th International Nurses Day was celebrated at the CMO conference hall, District Hospital, Longleng, in collaboration with the Health Care Nursing School (HCNS), Longleng, under the theme ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered nurses save lives.’

The annual observance on May 12 honours nurses and their invaluable contribution to healthcare systems worldwide, a press release from the CMO office, Longleng stated. 

Speaking as the guest of honour, Dr Nounenuo Terhase, Senior Gynecologist at District Hospital Longleng, said the theme is a continuation of the multi-year “Our Nurses. Our Future” campaign aimed at reshaping health policy and investing in the nursing profession. She emphasised empowering nurses through better working conditions, professional development, and leadership roles to strengthen healthcare systems, manage shortages, and improve patient care.

Dr Terhase honoured nurses for serving with compassion, resilience, and professionalism every day. She acknowledged that nursing is a profession with high standards and a strong sense of public service, and added that despite tough and stressful working environments, the dedicated service of nurses forms the backbone of the healthcare system, bringing care, comfort, and hope to countless lives. She called upon the nursing community to not only be on the frontline of care but also on the frontline of change.

The programme featured a special prayer for nurses by Asangla Imchen, Associate Pastor (Women), Ao Baptist Arogo, Longleng; a sharing of “My Nursing Journey” by Vezhohulu Tunyi, Staff Nurse, DH Longleng; and an enlightening drama and dance performance by ANM students of HCNS.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kikasashi Longkumer, BSc Nursing Tutor, HCNS Longleng, with an invocation prayer by A Pongthai Phom, Vaccinator, DH Longleng. The welcome address was delivered by Ellen Bongyang, TNAI President (Local Unit), Longleng. Vote of thanks was proposed by Lily Phom, Nursing Incharge, DH Longleng, followed by a mass benediction.
