Longleng, June 29 (MExN): The Office of the District Vector Borne Officer (NVBDCP), Longleng, under the Chief Medical Officer observed Anti-Malaria Month 2026 with a series of awareness and prevention activities across the district under the theme ‘Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.’

The campaign aimed to strengthen malaria surveillance, promote community awareness, and encourage active participation in malaria prevention and elimination, stated an update received here.

As part of the campaign, mass screening of migrant workers was conducted in identified high-risk areas to facilitate early detection and prompt treatment of malaria cases. Awareness programmes were also organized in schools and health units, educating participants on malaria transmission, symptoms, preventive measures, early diagnosis, and the importance of consistent use of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs).

Focus Group Discussions were held in Longleng town wards and villages to encourage community participation in malaria elimination. The district also observed LLIN Fortnight (June 10 to 25, 2026), during which MTS, Surveillance Workers, and ASHAs carried out evening house-to-house visits to monitor LLIN usage and educate households on malaria prevention.

As part of the observance, an Inter-School Poster Competition was organized on June 22, 2026 at the CMO Conference Hall, Longleng, with participation from six schools. Certificates and prizes were awarded to the winners for their outstanding performances.

The month-long campaign witnessed active participation from health staff, school students, community leaders, NGOs and the general public.
