Longleng, July 27 (MExN): The Longleng district administration has temporarily revised commercial taxi fares and notified alternate travel routes following road blockages caused by recent natural calamities, while the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) reviewed restoration measures at an emergency meeting on Monday.
In a travel advisory, the Deputy Commissioner informed commuters travelling between Longleng and Kohima or Dimapur that they should use the alternate Longleng–Tuensang–Chare–Mokokchung route until further orders as clearance and restoration work on the main highway continues.
Passengers have also been advised to limit their luggage to 5 kg per person due to the difficult terrain along the diversion route.
The administration has approved a temporary increase in commercial taxi fares owing to the longer distance and additional travel time. The revised fares are Rs 1,600 for Longleng-Dimapur, Rs 1,500 for Longleng-Kohima and Rs 600 for Longleng-Tuensang.
It said the normal routes and fare structure would be restored once the main road is reopened for safe vehicular movement. Passenger vehicle operators and commuters have been urged to cooperate with the authorities and traffic personnel.
Longleng DC opens alternate route for LMVs to Mokokchung
In a separate advisory, the Longleng district administration announced that the road connecting Longleng and Mokokchung has become motorable for light motor vehicles (LMVs).
According to the Deputy Commissioner, travellers have been asked to use the Longleng–Auching–Shangjen–Momching–Phampak–Yangpi–Noksen–Longmisa–NH-2–Mokokchung route.
The administration said the alternate route is approximately 105 km long.
Commuters have been advised to exercise caution while travelling and remain alert for landslides, mudslides and flash floods along the route.
The advisory added that travellers requiring assistance may contact the Village Council Chairmen (VCCs), head gaon buras (GBs) or Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs) of villages along the route.
