Lotha Hoho declines to join Foothill Road protest

Wokha, May 19 (MExN): The Lotha Hoho has decided not to participate in any agitation related to the Nagaland Foothill Road and will instead cooperate with the State Government in efforts to expedite the project.

In a letter addressed to the Convener of the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), the apex Lotha body stated that it has been participating in meetings with both the NFHRCC and the State Government regarding the Foothill Road issue and is fully aware of the road works, financial implications, land acquisition and donation matters connected to the project.

The Hoho maintained that all organisations involved should cooperate with each other “instead of any confrontation, like agitation/protest.”

While affirming its support to the NFHRCC “in any genuine effort,” the Lotha Hoho said it is aware that the committee is keen to expedite commissioning of the Foothill Road. However, it added that the State Government is also sincere in pushing the project forward but is facing challenges such as fund constraints and land-related issues.

“In view of the situation, the Lotha Hoho would choose to co-operate with the State Government authorities, rather than support any protest/agitation by any organisation,” the letter stated.

The Lotha Hoho informed that it would not attend the NFHRCC-convened meeting held in Dimapur on May 19. However, it clarified that it has “no objection” to members of the Dimapur-based Lotha Hoho attending the meeting individually.
