LPO urges GoI to ‘listen to voice of common people’

Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): The Lotha Public Organisation (LPO) today called upon the Government of India to respect and acknowledge their predecessors “who have immensly supported the Naga cause at the highest level since the inception of peace talk between the two entities.”

A press release from the LPO president, Sulanthung Humtsoe and general secretary, Zaremo Kikon said that the Naga issue has now been “internationalized beyond the Naga country,” and stated that “taking advantage of the Naga political movement will be a wrong concept by the GoI.”

It reminded that on several occasions, Indian leaders like Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and AB Vaypayee have acknowledged the Naga political movement as a political issue which is to be dealt with political dialogue till today.

It meanwhile, urged the Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor of the Indo-Naga talks, RN Ravi not to “twist and rewrite the agreed Framework Agreement,” and “not to be taken away by some few vested Naga leaders and hurriedly sign the peace accord.”

It urged the Governor to “listen to the voice of the common Naga people because the common Naga people consensus is the voice of the Naga people but not to the tribal leaders.”

The LPO meanwhile condemned those people from the Lotha community who had allegedly “vigorously pressed hard to sign the peace accord during the consultation meeting at Hotel Jafpü, Kohima on October 18.” It claimed that they did not represent the Lotha peoples’ consensus but had represented with their own personal capacity.

Further the LPO urged the Naga people not to “shy away or stay in the comfort zone and watch the dying of Naga future generation at this deciding factor of the Nagas.” It called upon the Naga people to raise their voice and “think for the upcoming Naga younger generation so as to live a peaceful life in the future and to live Nagas as one, irrespective of the artificial boundary which has been forcefully demarcated by the GoI without the consent of the Naga people.”
