Make history, urges Torechu

PUNGRO, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): Students from interior Pungro sub-division now need not longer travel all the way to Kiphire town, the district headquarter, to sit for the HSLC examination. A new HSLC examination centre was dedicated at GHS Pungro on February 10 in presence of Parliamentary secretary for CAWD, Torechu, and attended by administrative officials, GBS, public leaders and village elders.
Torechu who also represents 60 Kiphire-Pungro assembly seat in his address at the dedicatory programme termed the occasion as a “memorable” event and one that would likely change the course of academic pursuits of the students of the area. He called upon the public leaders, GBs and the public to ensure a conducive atmosphere throughout the examination period so that the students can study in relative peace.
He also asked the area people and parents not to interfere during exam time and not to encourage unfair practices since such practices might lead to cancellation of the exam centre. Torechu further appealed the GBs, village guards and villages concerned to ensure smooth and safe delivery of both question papers and answer scripts between Kiphire and Pungro.
President of Yimchungru Tribal Council Tsesong who also spoke on the occasion cautioned that the council would take stringent action against any individual trying to adopt unfair means during the matric exam. The headmaster of GHS Punro also addressed the programme. The parish priest of St. Paul Parish, Rev. Fr. Anthony led the dedicatory prayer and pastor Yimto offered a special prayer for the students. SDO (C) Pungro John Tselie chaired the programme. A total of 124 students area sitting for the matric exams from Pungro centre.
 On Friday, Torechu addressed the students just before they entered the examination hall and encouraged them to make “history” since they were the first batch of students to appear from the new centre. He also announced cash award of `25,000 to the toppers and `15,000 to those securing distinction in various subjects from Pungro centre. As a mark of encouragement, Torechu also distributed pens to the students.
