Makharung, EAC Colony emerge champions at Monfest volleyball meet in Baghty

Baghty, April 29 (MExN): The Montfort School in Baghty on April 28 concluded its Monfest Volleyball Tournament 2026 with a vibrant closing ceremony attended by students, educators and community members, celebrating sportsmanship and unity.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by school principal M K Devassy, who appreciated the collective efforts behind the successful of the tournament and underlined the importance of such events in nurturing talent and strengthening community bonds.

Guest of honour Rev Fr George Anthony, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bhandari, in his address encouraged students to maintain a balance between academics and sports. He stressed that physical fitness is vital not only for personal well-being but also for national development, and commended the organisers for fostering unity, social interaction and harmony across the Baghty Valley.

A brief report on the tournament was presented by Mhonchan Murry, assistant teacher at Montfort School, highlighting the competitive spirit and enthusiastic participation throughout the event.
In the men’s category, Makharung Village emerged champions, while Soku Village finished as runners-up.

In the women’s category, EAC Colony clinched the championship title, with Makharung Village securing the runners-up position. Among the Montfort School student teams, Thunderstorm Team won the title, while Ten Stars finished as runners-up.

The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performers, including Tumchobemo Enni of Makharung Village, Liyingbeni Rangthang of EAC Colony, and Zarenthung Odyuo of the Thunderstorm Team.

The event concluded on a high note, celebrating not only the winners but also the spirit of teamwork and community cohesion that defined the tournament.
