Man gets life imprisonment under POCSO Act in Peren

Peren, July 26 (MExN): A special court for trial of cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has convicted and sentenced a 39-year-old man in Peren for raping his step daughter.

This judgment and order against Kangzangyi, a resident of Nkozai colony Peren Town, was pronounced in an open court by Special Judge POSCO Inalo Zhimomi on July 21, informed a press release by K Heroto Chishi, Public Prosecutor. 

According to the release, the victim was 13-year-old minor girl at the time of incident and the case was first taken up on the basis of a Fist Information Report (FIR) file by her uncle “alleging that the victim (his niece) was forcibly raped by the accused, who is a step father of the victim on several occasions and as a result the victim was pregnant.”

Accordingly, a case was registered at the Peren Police Station and UBI Neiketouko conducted the investigation and filed a charge sheet against the accused under section 376/506 IPC read with Section 4 POCSO. 

During the course of trail, the prosecution lead the evidence and all together six 6 prosecution witnesses were examined before the court, the release said. 

After hearing both sides, the prosecution was able to proof its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused for commission of an offence under Section 376 (2) 1PC R/w Section 4 POCSO and the accused was found guilty and convicted, it added. 

The Court also directed the convict to a pay a fine of Rs 2500 and in the event of defaulting the payment, undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months.
