DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 10 (MExN): One man was arrested in Dimapur with a 7.62 calibre G4 (China-make) light machine gun. The catch was made by the Special Branch, Dimapur on Saturday following a covert investigation lasting over two months long. The accused, identified as Kenneth Khamai (32 years) of Khotom village falling under Senapati district, Manipur was in the process of selling off the weapon to a buyer in Dimapur before the sale was foiled.
He was handed over the weapon by someone in Senapati to transport it to Dimapur, where the weapon was to be dropped. He was to hand it over to a contact of the buyer here, the Special Branch said. He was caught with the weapon at Westyard around 11:30 am. The seller as well as the buyer is yet to be traced.
According to the accused, the identity of the buyer or the contact, to whom he was to hand over the weapon is not known to him. His job was simply to transport it to Dimapur and drop it off at a pre-specified location at Kalibari Road; for which he was promised Rs. 10, 000. He had reached Dimapur on Saturday hitching a ride on a truck. The deal was already struck between the seller and the buyer for Rs. 3.80 lakh.
