Kohima, January 23 (MExN): A 39-year-old man was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000 by a Kohima court after being convicted under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code in a culpable homicide case.
The Court of Mezivolu T. Therieh, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kohima, vide an order dated January 23, 2026, convicted Raju Rao for committing the culpable homicide of Ninaju Raj Bangshi, aged 37, at Jotsoma village in 2021, according to a press release issued by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, Kohima.
The court ordered that “the Convict is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 4 years and to pay a fine of Rs. 5000/- and in default of payment of fine to undergo Simple Imprisonment for 1 year for the offence punishable U/S 304 Part II IPC.”
The investigation in the case was conducted by UBSI Tsalamo Odyou of Sechu Zubza Police Station, Kohima. During the trial, six prosecution witnesses were examined.
The State was represented by L. Sashimongla Jamir, Special Public Prosecutor, who, the release stated, “successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.” It further stated that “after considering the oral, medical and documentary evidence, the Court found the accused guilty U/S 304 part II IPC.”
Additional Public Prosecutor, Kohima, Abraham stated that “the conviction is a result of coordinated efforts between the police, Prosecution, and witnesses” and also thanked “the investigating agency for their effective work.”ment of Nagaland.
