Manipur on Wednesday received 48,000 more doses of Covishield as the second consignment of the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) Pune. The Covishield vaccine consignment arrived at Imphal International Airport and is being kept in the walk-in freezer of the Directorate of Family Welfare, an official source said.
With the earlier consignment of 54,000 doses of Covishield vaccine received on January 14, COVID-19 vaccination programme in the state had already begun on January 16 along with other states of the country. The vaccination programme is continuing in the state with healthcare workers as beneficiaries of the first phase of the vaccination programme.
Over 1,100 healthcare workers have been vaccinated till Tuesday against the targeted beneficiaries of 9,617 healthcare workers in the first phase.
In the 3rd and the 4th phase, persons above 50 years of age and people below 50 years of age with co-morbidities will be vaccinated.
The first phase will be concluded on January 25 after which the 2nd phase with other frontline warriors as beneficiaries will commence.
Ahead of the commencement of the second phase, the state government will review the programme on January 23.
