Manipur sounds flood, landslide alert

Manipur government on Friday sounded flood and landslide alert in view of incessant rain at most places of Manipur.

Relief and Disaster Management department of the state government sounded the alert to deputy commissioners of all the districts asking them to take up precautionary measures in coordination with the department of Water Resources.

It warned that there is possibility of floods and landslides at flood and landslide prone areas due to this incessant rain.

In view of the rising levels of most of the rivers that run above the warning levels, the state Relief and Disaster Management department has also opened a toll free telephone number 1070 (can call from all networks except JIO) as Standard Disaster Helpline in the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) of the office. 

Mention may be made here that major rivers in the valley have risen above the warning level on Friday owing to the incessant rainfall since Thursday evening.

A source in the state Water Resource department said that the water levels of three rivers running in Imphal - Imphal River, Nambul River and Nambol River- are running above the flood warning level.

Rain gauge installed at various places of the state showed Kangpokpi received 48 mm, 15 mm at Saikul, 18 mm at Litan, 8 mm at Raj Bhavan, 9 mm at Lamphel and 19.4 mm at Jiribam during the period from 5pm of Thursday till Friday morning 5 am.
