The premier festival of Mao “Chüthuni” was celebrated on Saturday at Model Higher Secondary School, Kohima with much zest and traditional gaiety. Organized by Mao Union of Kohima, the festival was marked by folk songs, traditional dance and indigenous games.
Gracing the occasion, D. Lokho, Rtd. Joint secretary, home government of Nagaland said Chüthuni is the festival of purification, invoking God's blessing and merry-making. It is the post harvest festival and described to be an occasion to celebrate success and victory over death and destruction.
The celebration was marked by Chüthuni blessing by the elder man K. Dili, folk song by K. Pfokreni Peter, Pfo Kokho & Nopfü Chodokhra, i/c Komuni Makabo, elder, presidential address by MUK president H. Lokho, indigenous games by female i/c Athuo, traditional dance by MUK i/c Krelo, special song by Choro Ashuni, Kids for Fame 2009, vote of thanks proposed by Chüthuni convenor and followed by Chüthuni feast.
