Massive response to the call of Naga Reconciliation

Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): A sea of waving blue flags dotted the Agri-Expo site at 4th Mile, Dimapur yesterday during the Naga Reconciliation meeting. Responding to the call of a public meeting by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, people from all walks of life and from districts of Nagaland and beyond turned up to be a part of this landmark occasion.

“We are here to sign in agreement for Reconciliation,” said Shimray, who made the trip to Dimapur along with 450 others from Ukhrul. He said that people from Chandel, Tamenglong, and Ukhrul are here to actively participate in the meeting.

Meanwhile, 2000 plus delegates from Singrijan also sat through the meeting, nodding as the leaders of the collective leadership took their turns at the dais. A member of the Dimapur Gorkha Union said, “We are supporting the peace process since day one. As a bonafide member, we have pledged our support.” On what expectations, he had from the meeting; he said that while supporting the Reconciliation movement, at this juncture “unity” is necessary. Because, “Unity is strength,” he said.

A group of around hundred Kukis from Molvom Village, near Ghanspani also sat huddled at one corner. “We are expecting a proper settlement. Something should be achieved, and conclusion or solution should come from the meeting,” said the group.

Perhaps, the best achievement of this Reconciliation meeting is when ‘individuals’ like this old man was seated at the ground that made the travel all the way from Pughoboto, Zunheboto district. The old man had come to attend the meeting, not with any agenda as such. But because of genuine interest to be a part of the historic Naga Reconciliation process.
