Peren, October 7 (MExN): The number of measles cases in Peren district is declining and the situation remains contained, the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was informed during its monthly meeting held at the DC’s Conference Hall on October 6.
Medical Superintendent Dr Antoly Suu informed the meeting that a few confirmed cases had been reported from Veterinary Colony and Jalukie B, while the Health Department was closely monitoring the situation.
According to the State DIPR, Deputy Commissioner and DPDB Vice-Chairman Hiazu Meru stressed the need for public awareness programmes and said necessary advisories would be circulated to promote awareness and preventive measures.
Mew meeting also reviewed the proceedings of the previous meeting and discussed the NAAC accreditation process of Peren Government College, Green Peren initiatives, the Unity Mini Hornbill Festival, Inter-Departmental Tournament and Barak River Catchment Area Project.
It also discussed the Peren Town Youth Organisation’s request for financial assistance from government departments for its 18th Inter-Ward Tournament scheduled in November, leaving the matter to individual departments for consideration.
The Board approved the creation of a health sub-centre at Mhaikam village.
On Reform Utsav, DC Meru informed the house that the three-month Government of India initiative, being held from October to December, was launched in Peren district at New Peren village on October 2. He said the exercise seeks citizens’ suggestions and feedback to identify areas for improvement.
The meeting also discussed the Village Development Plan for New Peren village, with the DC highlighting limited awareness among villagers about their rights and a communication gap at the grassroots level. A committee was constituted with EAC, Peren HQ, as Convenor and BDO, Peren, as Member Secretary.
The meeting also featured presentations by the Youth Resources & Sports and Forest departments on their respective programmes and activities.
