DIMAPUR, JULY 9 (MExN): The proposed medical college in Dimapur will only remain a proposition for the time being, if not for the coming days. The government of India, it appears is not seriously considering the long cherished dream of Nagaland to have a medical institute in the state. Minister for Health & Family Welfare Khuzoluzo (Azo) Nienu said that there has been no positive response from the government of India, in this regard, thus far.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme today, Azo said that the matter was part of the agenda discussed during the annual general body meeting of the Christian Institute of Health Science & Research held Saturday, July 9. He was the co-convenor of the meeting in the absence of the governor who could not attend.
In September 2010, during the signing of the tripartite MoU between the North Eastern Council, the CIHSR and the state government for a multi-disciplinary paramedical institute, in ‘Public-Private-Partnership’ mode at the CIHSR, the Nagaland government had conveyed to the Central government the necessity of a medical institute here. DoNER minister, BK Handique had signed the deal on behalf of the NEC. That time according to highly placed bureaucrats of the state government, Handique is said to have assured all possible help while reassuring the Nagaland government that his ministry will take up the matter as a priority with the centre. If the health minister’s words are to go by, it seems that assurance has gone to deaf ears.
For the proposed Para-Medical Training Institute, Azo said funds will be sanctioned in about 2-3 months time, for which the site was inspected today. The news is not that gloomy though for the upcoming Nursing College at the CIHSR. When set it will be affiliated to the Nagaland University. ‘No Objection Certificate’ has already been issued by the NU in this regard. Inspection by the Indian Nursing Council will follow, then by the Assam Nursing Council and finally by the NU, he added.
Smokers beware. The meeting further decided to declare the CIHSR complex as a ‘No Smoking Zone’, he informed.
‘CIHSR poised to become institute of excellence’
Dimapur, July 9 (MExN): The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Khuzoluzo Neinu Minister today lauded the efforts of the Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) in developing the healthcare sector in Nagaland. Neinu held that with dedicated staff under the leadership of the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sedevi Angami and Director CIHSR, Dr. Abraham Joseph, CIHSR is poised to become an institute of excellence in future.
The Minister was attending a dedication ceremony of a private ward at CIHSR. The much needed ward with facilities for 24 rooms on each of the three floors, and 6 executive rooms was dedicated today by Reverend Dr. Tuisem Shishak of Patkai Christian College. The entire building is not ready for use, but officials said that atleast the first floor will open by next week.
Neinu said that the development of CIHSR is a contribution to the growth of the state’s economy. With a number of patients seeking treatment outside the state, such developments, he stated, can enhance the state’s economy. “By setting up such medical facilities, we can stop drain of wealth and save our economy,” Neinu said. Stating further that the new ward is a tangible development in CIHSR, Neinu said that in the next few years the institute will be able to cater of a larger section of the public.
The private ward has been built at a cost of Rs. 8 crores funded by the Government of India. Describing the completion of ward as a milestone achieved by CIHSR, Director CIHSR, Dr. Abraham Joseph expressed gratitude to the Government of India and the Government of Nagaland CIHSR for lending support to the project.
Meanwhile, the Minister also visited the site at CIHSR which was damaged by soil erosion last month. It is learnt that the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control has sent an action plan report to CIHSR. The latter is only waiting for its implementation. Spread over 133 acres of land, CIHSR is an undertaking of Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA) who entered into a bilateral MoU to re-vitalize the Referral Hospital. Later, the bilateral MoU was converted into a tripartite MoU with the Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore as the third stake-holder.
