Health officials after the training programme on Ebola Virus Disease and zoonoses held at the CMO’s Conference Hall in Dimapur on August 7.
Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): A capacity-building training programme for Medical Officers under Dimapur district was held at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) Conference Hall on August 7, focusing on preparedness and response to Ebola Virus Disease and zoonotic diseases.
Dr. Ito T. Yeptho, Medical Officer, District Hospital Dimapur, served as the resource person for the session on Ebola Virus Disease. He covered its epidemiology, modes of transmission, clinical features, infection prevention and control measures, case definitions and reporting protocols.
The session stressed the importance of early detection, safe sample collection and coordination with district surveillance units for a rapid response to suspected cases.
Dr. K. Pewezo Khalo, Senior Specialist, Microbiology Laboratory, District Hospital Dimapur, briefed the participants on protocols for the collection, transportation, testing and submission of samples from suspected Ebola cases.
The session on zoonoses was led by Dr. Molungtsungba, Epidemiologist, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Dimapur. He highlighted the burden of zoonotic diseases in the region, common routes of animal-to-human transmission and the importance of the "One Health" approach.
Rabies, anthrax, leptospirosis and other locally relevant zoonotic diseases were among the topics covered. He stressed the need for intersectoral coordination among health, animal husbandry and community stakeholders for effective prevention, surveillance and control.
The training was aimed at updating Medical Officers on current guidelines, strengthening diagnostic suspicion and reinforcing reporting mechanisms under the IDSP.
The programme was chaired by Epibeni, Microbiologist, IDSP, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Aomar Imchen, Data Manager, IDSP.
