Jharnapani, December 6 (MExN): The premier institute in agricultural research and extension in Nagaland, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region (Nagaland Centre) had organized a meeting with members of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT).
The meeting was chaired by Dr. SS Baghel to critically review the work done during the last 5 years and to prepare the future work plan for the development of agriculture in the state for the next 5 years. The other members of the team were Dr. VP Singh, Dr. DK Marothia, Dr. S Singh, Dr. S Bhan, Dr. A Varma, Dr. KK Vass, Dr. SV Ngachan and Dr. NS Azad Thakur. Other important participants of the meeting were Dr. BC Deka (Joint Director of Nagaland centre), all the Scientists of the centre and Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) of KVK-Dimapur.
The programme started with the field visit in Molvom village, Dimapur district where the VIPs interacted with the pineapple and turmeric growers of this village. The progress report of the centre highlighting the research and extension activities of the centre was presented by Dr Deka. The QRT members appreciated the work done by the centre which had developed several technologies including nutrient management in rice, maize, beans, mustard, linseed, improved varieties, soil and water conservation, water harvesting, vermicomposting, organic farming practices for tomato and cabbage, breeding programme of pig and poultry which are widely adopted by the farmers of the state. Besides, this centre is extensively known for its weather forecasting services through e-mail and mobile SMS, animal health camp, vaccination camp and supply of high quality piglets and chicks to the farmers across the state.
The team suggested to develop suitable farming system for different altitudes and to carry out the research to improve the crop productivity in jhum cultivation system. The team was highly satisfied with the work done by the staffs of the centre and KVK.
In the evening a cultural programme was organized revealing the great heritage of the state participated by small children of the staff.
