
Peren, July 15 (MExN): Memorial of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra was unveiled at Sainik School, Punglwa during a ceremony by the Assam Rifles Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (N) on July 15.
Captain N. Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra was an alumnus of St. Xavier’s School who completed his schooling on April 26, 1990. He was later commissioned as an Officer into the Indian Army on 12th December 1998 into Rajputana Rifles. He laid down his life in service to the nation in the highest traditions of the Indian Army during the Kargil War. His indomitable courage and valour led the Battalion to achieve one of the most daunting missions assigned to it. He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest award in the face of enemy for this act of gallantry.
According to a DIPR report, the memorial was unveiled by his parents Neiselie and Dinuo who were the chief guests of the event. The unveiling ceremony was also attended by IGAR (North), Offg DIG 6 Sector AR, SP Peren and other Civil Administration and the students of Sainik School, Punglwa. Wreaths were laid by the guests at the memorial and they motivated the young students during their speech to emulate the values displayed by Captain N. Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra of leadership, courage and service to the nation.
Sainik School, Punglwa is the 21st Sainik School and was inaugurated on May 21, 2007 by the then Defence Minister, A.K. Anthony. It is the third Sainik School in North Eastern Region. The aim of the school is to remove regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the defence services, to develop qualities of body, mind and character enabling the young boys in the region to become good and useful citizens of tomorrow. The school has the motto ‘We Learn We Serve’ and so far three students from the school have joined the folds of Indian Armed Forces to serve their motherland.
