Alobo Naga performing during the MGM College, Dimapur literary cum cultural day held on February 9.
Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): MGM College, Dimapur celebrated its Literary cum Cultural Day under the theme “Echoes of the Past, Tales of the Present” on February 9.
Held in the college auditorium, the event was graced by renowned singer-songwriter Alobo Naga as the Guest of Honour.
The inauguration began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Naga, accompanied by college Principal Dr R K Behera, Administrator Fr Gigu George, Head of the English Department Ahikali I Jakha, and Dean of Students Mr Lisathung Ovung.
In his welcome address, Dr Behera highlighted the role of literature and culture in shaping identity and critical thinking.
A special drama performance by the Sahitya Club of the English Department emphasised preserving heritage.
In his keynote address, Alobo Naga urged students to take pride in their tribal identity and creatively blend tradition with contemporary art forms. He also delivered a live musical performance.
The event featured literary competitions including debate, slam poetry, art, and essay writing, followed by a cultural showcase of folk fusion songs, traditional dances, fire-making and winnowing demonstrations, and attire displays.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Cultural Secretary Disong Waineikum and a benediction by MGM E.U. President Nikaho Awomi.
