Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The department of Education, MGM College Dimapur organised a webinar on “Understanding of Disability” on September 25.
In his introductory speech, Principal Fr Dr PS Varghese spoke on the vital need to understand the disabled, their struggles and to integrate them into society.
Meanwhile, the resource persons Soumya PU, Principal of Prerna Special School, Nagpur, familiarised the students with the term "disability,” types, with learning disabilities in particular.
The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995, and The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 were discussed in depth.
To develop a normal life for such students, Soumya emphasised the importance of creating space, supporting and encouraging them. She also gave an overview of Prerna the special school and its functioning.
The programme was attended by faculty and students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semester of education department, a press release from MGM informed.
