Military change of guard in NSCN/GPRN

Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): By the orders of the Yaruiwo, Isak Chishi Swu, “Major General” Phungthing Shimray has been appointed as the new chief of the Naga Army succeeding “Lt. General” Ng. Markson. According to a press statement issued by the MIP, “Lt. General” Ng. Markson, VC retired honorably from the military on November 30, 2011 and has now been appointed as the Chairman of Military Council in the rank of a Cabinet member.

Acknowledging the services rendered by “Lt. General” Ng. Markson who served in the Naga Army for 37 years, 3 months and 18 days, the MIP stated that he joined as a mere private soldier and made his way to the top position and ‘has certainly attained the status of a living legend.’ The NSCN/GPRN stated that he was a committed soldier, and his loyalty to the nation and leadership is highly commendable.

Recognizing his bravery in the battlefields and hard earned achievement, the NSCN/GPRN has decorated Markson with the highest military award- the Victory Cross. It stated that he shall always be remembered as one of the national heroes of the Nagas and further believes that he will serve in the civil setup with equal spirit and commitment for the rest of his service days.
