Minister for Roads and Bridges Kaito Aye on Saturday called for unity among the Sumi community to build the tribe and the larger Naga society as one, while encouraging the youth to help one another.

Gracing the SBAK Nito Mount 65th Youth Conference as the special guest, Aye said that not everyone can become a politician, bureaucrat, or technician, while adding that one should love their profession and the people they serve wherever one is placed.

Highlighting the challenges faced by today’s youth, the minister pointed out the easy availability of substances, urging the participants to remember the significance of such gatherings in sustaining their lives.

“Let the Word of God be your foundation. Change your mindset; the world today is very different from the past,” Aye maintained.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that educated and well-minded individuals can bring change if they work together. “You worship God, but do you truly believe in God?” he asked, challenging the youth to reflect on their faith.

Stating that the Sumi youth conference predates the statehood of Nagaland, he urged the youth to live a meaningful and disciplined life, while emphasising the need to practice values and knowledge accumulated in daily life.

“Churches have their limitations; it is the people who must live by the teachings. Whether good or bad, one must face the consequences of their actions,” he said.

Terming Nagaland a “man-made disaster,” he expressed concern over environmental degradation, noting that rivers are filled with plastic and bottles.

“Do not just attend this conference. Be strong and take responsibility. Let us rebuild our community, help others, and live united as Nagas,” he emphasised.
