Nagaland Minister for Public Works Department (Housing and Mechanical Engineering) P Bashang Chang on June 19 commemorated the first death anniversary of his late father, Phanglou Chang, by visiting Tuensang District Hospital with family members and interacting with patients and healthcare workers.
Choosing a community-oriented observance instead of a private memorial, the minister and his family spent time with patients across different wards, offering words of encouragement, prayers and wishes for their speedy recovery. The visit was described as a tribute to the humanitarian values and spirit of service that his late father embodied.
During the visit, Bashang Chang toured various sections of the hospital, including patient cabins, the dialysis centre, general wards, and the maternity and paediatric wards. He personally interacted with patients, enquired about their health conditions and listened to their concerns.
The visit marked the minister's fifth visit to Tuensang District Hospital since he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2023.
Following his interaction with patients, Bashang Chang held a brief review meeting with the hospital administration led by Senior Medical Officer Dr Senilo Magh. The meeting discussed the availability of medical facilities, the quality of healthcare services and the implementation of government healthcare schemes aimed at ensuring accessible and quality treatment for patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Magh expressed appreciation to the minister and his family for choosing the district hospital as the venue to commemorate the anniversary.
He said the gesture was meaningful for both patients and healthcare workers and reflected a commitment to public welfare.
Hospital staff also welcomed the visit, stating that the minister's personal interaction with patients and frontline healthcare workers served as a source of encouragement and boosted the morale of the hospital staff.
Concluding the visit, Bashang Chang assured the hospital authorities of his continued support towards strengthening healthcare services in the district. He reiterated his commitment to improving medical infrastructure and addressing resource requirements to enhance patient care and service delivery.
