Mon, July 26 (MExN): Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Paiwang Konyak on Saturday reviewed the post-disaster health situation in Mon district and directed officials to remain alert against possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases following recent floods and landslides.
The minister held a coordination meeting with the district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, Superintendent of Police Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Supongmenla and Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Mon, Dr Aman Konyak.
Briefing officials on the situation in Tizit town following the recent floods, the minister said residents were facing an acute shortage of drinking water as local wells had been contaminated by floodwaters.
He enquired about the public health situation in Mon town after the disaster and urged the CMO to work closely with the district administration in addressing health-related challenges.
Konyak directed health officials to remain vigilant against possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the floods. To strengthen emergency medical preparedness, he handed over Rs 3 lakh to the CMO and instructed officials to submit reports on the hospital's status every six hours.
The minister also cautioned officials against making unnecessary relief claims.
Medical Superintendent Dr Aman Konyak informed the meeting that landslides had cut off road connectivity to several villages, resulting in fewer patients visiting the district hospital.
CMO Dr Supongmenla briefed the minister on the availability of medicines across the district.
