Another NAP officer succumbs to illness

Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): A security guard from the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) manning Union Minister for State Sachin Pilot’s residence in Delhi allegedly committed suicide just after midnight on Sunday, January 29. The NAP guard was identified as 32-year-old Constable Inabo Sema of Aghunato sub-division of Zunheboto. The official residence of the Union Minister for State for Communications is at 3, Safdarjung Road house in Delhi. 

According to sources, the guard, a constable with the F Company of the 2nd NAP, shot himself with his service rifle in the guardhouse. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he was declared dead.  It is said that Sema had returned to duty after returning from Kohima six days ago. 

Adding to tragedy of the Nagaland Police, another member of the organization posted in Delhi passed away Sunday. Armed Battalion Sub Inspector (ABSI) with the 3rd NAP, Moayanger Ao, of Mangmetong village, was found dead in Delhi. DIG (Range) of the NAP Akum Yimchunger informed that the officer was found dead in the sleeping quarters Sunday morning. According to information received from Delhi, the officer is believed to have died in his sleep.  There are three companies of the NAP posted in Delhi currently. 

Concerning the reported suicide of the first deceased, the Commandant of the 2nd NAP, when contacted, Sunday evening, said that the case was with the Delhi Police and they were awaiting the post-mortem report to formally ascertain the nature of death. Asked if it was work related stress that could have drove the constable to take the drastic step, the commandant said it cannot be speculated at the moment.    

The bodies of the two NAP personnel would be brought back home on Monday after completion of formalities, it was learned. Additional director General of Police L Thechamo Lotha, IPS, said arrangements are being made to ferry home the demised NAP personnel and would be in Dimapur tomorrow. He said the actual circumstances involving both the deaths are yet to be ascertained.  

Police officials informed that the bodies would arrive by flight till Guwahati and will be lifted by helicopter to the native places of the deceased. The late constable’s body will be flown till Mokokchung and will be taken by road to his native village, falling under Aghanato range in Zunheboto district. The body of the late ABSI will be brought to Chumukedima, where he has his parental residence.    

The Director General of Police of Nagaland also informed that funeral for the two personnel would be held at Chumukedima police complex and Alichen-Aghunato.     

Director General of Police of Nagaland Obanglemba Ao, IPS mourned the demise of the two NAP personnel.  ‘The DGP, officers and personnel of Nagaland police are saddened at the loss of the officer and man of the organization. We join the bereaved families in mourning their death,’ the Nagaland police chief said.
