DIMAPUR, MAY 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry has condemned the incident on the morning of May 3 at wholesale fish market, Signal Bosti, wherein “unknown miscreants” allegedly “poured chemical-like liquid in 34 fish containers, thereby contaminating the fish.”
“The video clip of the incident, which went viral, indicates that it is the handiwork of some factions as taxation is involved. Had the heinous act gone unnoticed, one can only imagine the health damage done to innocent consumers and subsequent public uproar,” a press release from the DCCI President, Akashe Zhimomi alleged.
The DCCI said “never in the history of Naga political struggle, any faction has ever resorted to such abhorrent and outrageous tactics at the cost of public health and lives, which deserves to be condemned by one and all.”
It asked the Commissioner of Police (CP) and competent authority to take up this matter with outmost seriousness and book the culprits at the earliest “before things spiral out of hand.” It further asked the district administration and CP office to identify the perpetrators in print/social media for their reprehensible act.
“DCCI has also been receiving complaints that prices of poultry products (chickens) have increased in the last few days. The abnormal increase in prices of poultry products (both wholesale/retail) is attributed to ban on import of pigs from other states including Assam,” it meanwhile informed.
The DCCI requested the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to strictly monitor and ensure that the poultry products are being sold as per the rates fixed by DMC and not to let unscrupulous poultry traders take advantage of the situation.
Further, it reminded the business community to install CCTVs in their respective office/godown/shop so that unwanted elements can be apprehended with the help of the police. The DCCI meanwhile supported and endorsed the indefinite ban called by the Fish association from May 5 onwards, until the matter is resolved.
Meanwhile, the Dimapur Police, when contacted, informed that a case has been registered in this regard and investigation is on.
