Tension brewed in the B Sector of the Assam-Nagaland Disputed Area Belt (DAB) after a village was burned down on the night of October 2. The affected village, known as Tengatol in Assam’s Golaghat district, and Jalal in the Aghunaqa area of Niuland district, had 105 households with a population of around 700-800 people.
Independent sources, citing the Golaghat police, informed that atleast 93 houses were razed, in the incident attributed to “unknown miscreants.” It happened around 11:00 to 1:45 pm. Fingers were pointed towards Nagaland as behind the arson but the sources said that the allegation could not be ascertained. There was no official report of any casualty.
The sources said that the situation in the area was tense but under control. The area witnessed enhanced security vigil following the incident.
