Kohima, March 13 (MExN): Mission SOAR Nagaland and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) conducted a one-day workshop on March 13 to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in strengthening academic work, improving office productivity, and supporting textbook development.
The workshop brought together participants to examine how emerging AI tools can be used within academic institutions while keeping pedagogy and student learning at the centre. Sessions introduced applications of AI in academia, tools to improve workplace efficiency, and ways AI can assist syllabus design, textbook blueprinting, and the development of learning materials.
A demonstration of Sakhee, a custom AI application developed by mission partner Shikha Institute, was also held during the programme. The application is designed to support the creation of textbooks aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and the National Education Policy (NEP).
The programme concluded with discussions on the structure of a school leadership course and possible action steps moving forward.
Mission SOAR is a collaborative education transformation initiative led by the Department of School Education Nagaland with support from the Elevate Foundation.
Speaking on the significance of the workshop, Kevisato, Founder of NagaEd and Director of the Elevate Foundation, said, “Artificial Intelligence is not a replacement for educators, vision, or human connection. Its real value lies in how it can strengthen the hands of those already working to build better schools and better futures. This workshop with SCERT was an opportunity to explore how AI can help us work more purposefully, create stronger learning resources, and support the larger transformation of education in Nagaland.”
Daniel Thong, Head of IE & ICT at SCERT, stated, “This workshop was meaningful because it helped us look at AI not as an abstract idea, but as a practical tool that can support our academic and institutional work. What is encouraging is the possibility of using these tools in ways that improve quality, strengthen processes, and ultimately serve the needs of learners more effectively.”
Temjenmenla, Deputy Director, SCERT, said, “Through the use of AI, our quality of work can improve, and things can be done with better planning and support administration through better management and strategy. It was beneficial, especially in how we can use AI to frame lesson planning for the classroom.”
Karishma Shanghvi, Director of Shikha Institute and Mission SOAR Consortium Partner, said, “With Sakhee, our goal is to support the creation of high-quality curriculum material that is rigorous, relevant, and aligned with national frameworks because the students of Nagaland deserve the best. We believe technology can play a powerful role in this process when it is guided by sound pedagogy, a clear vision for learning, and sensitivity to context.”
