Mon, January 6 (MExN): MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Mon, Y Mankhao Konyak, on January 6 visited the Mon Town dumping site to review the ongoing legacy waste remediation works being undertaken under the Dumpsite Remediation Accelerator Programme (DRAP).
Konyak, who had earlier adopted the present dumping site for legacy waste remediation efforts under SBMU-2.0, was accompanied by the Administrator and staff of the Mon Town Council during the visit.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the work, he urged the Mon Town Council to ensure that the remediation is completed within the timeline prescribed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the State DIPR reported.
The MLA also expressed gratitude to the Department of Municipal Affairs, Government of Nagaland, for allotting two new vehicles to the Mon Town Council during 2024–25, stating that the move would help strengthen door-to-door garbage collection in Mon Town.
Appealing to the public, Konyak called upon residents to practise waste segregation at source and minimise the use of plastics and other harmful materials. He said such measures would help reduce the volume of waste reaching the dumpsite and prevent fresh waste from being dumped at the site.
