NECU IQAC in collaboration with the Fire Station, Central Dimapur, organised a mock drill on April 20.

Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): The North East Christian University (NECU), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the Fire Station, Central Dimapur, today organised a mock drill at the university campus, as part of the observance of Fire Service Week 2026 from April 14 to 20. It was held under the theme “Safe School, Safe Hospital and Fire Safety Aware Society – Together for Fire Prevention.”

Fire service personnel from the Central Dimapur station underscored that fire safety awareness is not merely an individual responsibility but a collective one, calling upon every citizen to remain proactive. They elaborated on the four classes of fire hazards, Class A (solid materials), Class B (flammable liquids), Class C (gases), and Class D (metals) and demonstrated the use of water, foam, dry powder, and carbon dioxide extinguishers to tackle them.

Practical demonstrations were also conducted on handling fire hazards resulting from gas cylinder leakage. Personnel highlighted the importance of replacing regulators every five years and gas pipes every two years to prevent accidents. Awareness was imparted on interpreting the ABCD printing on cylinders, which indicates the month of expiry.

Students received hands-on training in operating fire extinguishers and dousing fires caused by gas cylinder leaks. Poster making and essay competitions were held as part of the observance. The winners were felicitated with cash prizes and certificates sponsored by the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland. The event was attended by faculty and staff of the university.
